Vivienne Westwood Named ‘Inspiration of the Year’
Women have a lot to celebrate this year (like every year) and it’s a must that someone is there to show their appreciation towards them and all that they achieve. Encouraging them to more great things is one of the best ways to get even better things out of them and to keep them motivated to keep doing even more. It’s been decided by Harper’s Bazaar. At the annual Women of the Year Awards, they decided that famed fashion designer Vivienne Westwood should claim the title of ‘Inspiration of the Year’ thanks to the way that she is still standing strong as one of the biggest names in the fashion world, despite who long she’s been around in the fickle industry.
David Wallism was the host of the event and he was sure to give Westwood the credit that she deserves for all the work that she’s put in over the years. Looking back over the history of the brand and what it’s been able to achieve over that lengthy period of time (if we assume that we’re beginning from looking at her early 1980s work, it shows just how much she’s been able to contribute to the fashion industry. Back when she got her initial break in all of this, she was seen as an outsider who was forcibly making their way through to the forefront by putting a chic, luxury twist on youth culture at the time. With Punk being prominent back then, finding a way to make it work in that context felt strange, but her drive ensured that things would eventually go to plan as they did.
You can see why Harper’s Bazaar would honour Westwood at the Women of the Year Awards for so many reasons. From some angles you could say that she now deserves to be credited for her hard work, after facing so much adversity for decades before she would be celebrated for her work. It’s only very recently that the big award wins have been trickling in and that she’s being viewed in new ways to before and it’s great that they would decide that the ‘Inspiration of the Year’ title was rightfully hers.
